•  Joy Thompson

My name is Joy Thompson, and this is my fourth year to be the principal of Coleman Elementary. I am privileged to have the opportunity to work will such amazing children, parents, and staff. I look forward to meeting each new student that joins us, and I cannot wait to hear feedback from the parents. I am excited to see what a new year brings.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Education at McMurry University. I am certified to teach Early Childhood through 8th grade, Art Kindergarten-12th grade, and History  4th-8th grade. I earned my Master of Education in Administration through Lamar University. All of my teaching experience has been at Coleman ISD, where I have taught and coached at the junior high and high school level.
I am married to Weldon Thompson, and he is the maintenance supervisor at Coleman ISD and a coach. We have two wonderful children named Addie Grace and Zoe Jane. Our oldest daughter, Addie Grace, attends 2nd grade. She loves basketball and is always full of energy. My youngest daughter, Zoe Jane will finally be a Bluecat this year in kindergarten!

This year at Coleman Elementary School, we will be implementing a leadership program based on the book The Leader in Me by Stephen Covey. There is a children's version, The Seven Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey, and this is what we will be using with our students. We want to equip our students with the self-confidence and skills that they will need in order to be successful in life.

Here is a list of the seven habits and examples of each:

    Habit 1: Be Proactive
I am in charge of my own life. I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods.
Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind
I set goals for myself. I look for ways to be a good citizen.
Habit 3: Put First Things First
I do what is most important first. I am organized.
    Habit 4: Think Win-Win
I know what I want but I consider what others want as well.
There are good things for everyone.
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
I listen first and talk second. I value other people's ideas and feelings.
    Habit 6: Synergize
    I work well in groups.
We take good ideas and make them better by working together.
    Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw
I take care of my body, my brain, my heart, and my soul.
